I seem to have spent many of the the most recent BRG newsletters apologising for not writing more of them - I certainly have plenty of subjects I’d like to touch on, not least the first episode of season three of chef drama sensation The Bear, which my wife and I finally got around to starting last night. An hour of television so grotesque we immediately afterwards put on a horror movie about a demon from hell tearing the flesh from the bones of unsuspecting victims, just to clear the pallet. As my wife said halfway through the episode, it was just as pretentious, megalomaniacal, and boring as the elite chef food industry. So, I guess, as a piece of art it made a point. As a piece of televisual dramatic story telling it was numbing.
But anyway. That’s not why I’m here.
I’m here to talk about Donald Trump…
Just kidding. I think the man has enough column inches, and the subject is in danger of becoming as boring as chef dramas.
What I’m actually here to do is promote a book event I’ve been invited to take part in next Thursday in Swansea by the good people at the university’s Cultural Institute. If you’re in the area and fancy coming to see me talk to the venerable Rebecca Gould about my book, it’s free, but you do need to book a ticket. You can do that here.
Hope to see you there!
I will be there (if I can find the building)
